Padron Chilli Roulette

I managed to acquire some Pimientos de Padron, the Spanish Tapas chilli from the South Devon Chilli Farm http://www.southdevonchillifarm.co.uk

I tasted these for the first time last year, and they are not too easy to get hold of, I’ve even tried to grow my own but they slugs took a liking to them and sadly decimated my seedlings.

These are a mostly mild sweet chilli with roughly 1 in 10 being an awful lot hotter, so it really is Russian chilli roulette when you eat one.

I dressed them with olive oil and sea salt, and cooked them on my tuscan grill over red hot embers until they charred and blistered.

Then it was a case of get stuck in and see who got the hot one!

  1. Looks brilliant! Lol, I love the idea of a Russian Chilli Roulette feel – as it would add to the excitement.
Would really like to visit the South Devon Chilli Farm next time I’m over.

  2. They look really yummy! Love the idea of doing them on the barbie and serving with a lovely San Miguel. Did anyone get a spicy one?

    • Hi, great to hear from you, i figured the smoke would give them an extra bit of taste, and they were delicious, and went so well with the beer, that’s how they eat them as Tapas in spain, if you can get hold of some, they really are delicious, and yes there were a few spicy ones in there, the larger ones seemed to be hotter.

      • Hey Marcus, we had ours that we ordered from South Devon Chilli Farm last night. We only got one hot one in the whole batch but they were still lovely. Sadly not the same as eating them while relaxing in a lovely café in Barcelona but the next best thing!

      • Hi Jules, you sound disappointed to have just got the one hot one! I had 2 packs, and found the larger ones were hotter. I had a few hot ones so must have got lucky!
        Cheers
