Grillstock 2012

What a wonderful day, Grillstock 2012, a great weekend BBQ event, with a real buzz. I went last year, and it was what got me really hooked on BBQ, the characters, the smells and taste of all the amazing food cooked with real passion.

The gentleman you see above is Dr Sweetsmoke, a real legend in BBQ circles, and I was very fortunate to be able to taste some of his outstanding food, and the Buffalo Trace whiskey he kept topping me up with. It’s guys like him who are inspiring a whole host of new teams there were 21 teams competing this year and it was great to be able to chat with some of them throughout the day.

If you’ve missed it this year, then make sure you put the date in your calendar for next years.

I got to sample a great range of food, and drink…….

My little brother entered the chilli eating competition and came 4th which was a lot of fun too.

It’s great to see an event such as this in the UK now, bring on next years!

  1. That sounds fantastic, it’s very inspiring trying all the food and then doing your own take on it at home, hopefully it will encourage lots of people to get into BBQ and great food.
Shame we couldn’t have met, I was very fortunate to catch up with a lot of fab people though.
    Cheers

Yes Marcus a great event. I missed meeting you I was there in the rain on Saturday. You are right the aroma is enticing and the taste of the brisket was as good as anything I had in Texas. When I got home I planned straight away to cook over coals. I ended up in the rain again (home is in West Wet Wales) with chicken supremes using the California Rancher Santa Maria rub, then I hot smoked lamb lumps from a leg joint using butt rub. Not bad for a first attempt, but a lot to learn still

    • Thanks mate, yeah it’s a great event! of course I did… would have been rude not to, and boy was it good, and went back just as we were leaving for a plate of their slow cooked pulled pork from the roast in the pic above with a slab of the crisp crackling…..
      got you drooling??
      Cheers
